Disability Protest

On October 20th, 2004, several major disability organizations in Japan staged a major protest demonstration in Tokyo. The protesters hailed from all across Japan. The main organizers included:

  • DPI-Japan (Disabled People's International-Japan)
  • People First Japan
  • JIL - Japan Council on Independent Living Centers
  • National Peer-Support Network

Several other organizations also contributed towards the protest. About two thousand persons with disabilities and able-bodied supporters gathered in Shiba Park before dividing into three groups and marching to the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare; the Diet Building; and Hibiya Park.

I participated in this march from the beginning in the morning until about 4:00pm when I had to go to another commitment. I took about 350 photographs, I've chosen a much smaller selection for this gallery. Click 'next' below or on the navigation bars on top to move to the next image.
